Makeida is an exciting new artist taking clubs and radio stations by storm all across the world. Musichild Entertainment artist Makeida has released her first single “Sugar Love” from her debut album coming this summer entitled “Unstoppable”. Makeida has undoubtedly got the look, the artistic licence and the determination to succeed.  While it might seem like Makeida popped up out of nowhere, she’s anything but an overnight sensation. In fact, she spent years toiling away behind-the-scenes, writting tracks for label mates, and also played a significant role in the internet marketing of many stars like, Jay Z, Leona Lewis and even Susan Boyle, before being able to release her own music. “You really have to prove yourself and show your worthiness as a star with the way the industry is today.”

Makeida is indeed one of those rare artists working in music’s most lucrative genre who can write her own songs. “Singers writing their own songs is a dying art. We don’t think of R&B seriously any more, that’s what I want people to do,” she says. The 23-year-old, who grew up Makeida Ezekiel in London, has had a seemingly rapid rise, with her style and ambition earning comparisons with Beyonce .

“When I write my songs, I don’t really think of her (Beyonce) – but I’m a young hard working lady also, so it’s like we’ve got a lot in common,” she has said.  “I am Makeida,” she says, “the girl with the big voice and a whole lot of f****** nerve.”

She’s been singing professionally since she was 15 and, before becoming Makeida, she has worked with stars like Westlife, Leona Lewis, T Pain and many others. Makeida became an overnight sensation online, thanks to social sites like MySpace and Youtube. America, and the rest of the world, can’t seem to get enough of her.  “When I say I wrote the songs on my album I don’t mean I sat in a studio with a producer and a writer while they wrote it. I did the whole goddamn thing.”

To reach that goal, Makeida says she does “nothing but eat, breathe, sleep and live my work. I don’t have much time for boyfriends. I don’t party every night and get wasted. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“The music is intended to inspire people to feel a certain way about themselves, so they’ll be able to encompass, in their own lives, a sense of inner fame that they can project to the world, and the carefree nature of the album is a reflection of that aura. Celebrities (Makeida, KIG and Crazy Cousinz) will lent their star power to help the people of Haiti on Friday 23rd January by putting on a Free Concert and Gig that was held at the prestigious club 40/40 in London.

The concert was filled from wall to wall. The atmosphere, inspirational, yet reflective. Makeida Ezekiel set the tone for the Haiti Fundraiser concert,  against a backdrop of grim images of the January 12th earthquake, she made a musical call for help for the people of Haiti. Makeida spoke of the suffering caused by the devastating earthquake, which is thought to have killed about 200,000 people.

“This is an opportunity to help a neighbour in need, in desperate need, and to do it with swiftness, expertise, generosity, and love,” she said. KIG also enlightened the mood, when they performed their smash hit “Head, Shoulders, Kneez,  Toez”. (continue reading…)

We managed to arrange a quick interview with Makeida!!

How do you feel about your soaring success?

I am very thankful and very humble. I am thankful for the wonderful opportunities that present themselves to me. I have been working extremely hard for a few years and though my success seems like it just happened, or as though i just appeared… but i have been here for some years now… grinding.

How have you coped with the struggles and obstacles?

Well, sometimes (in reality) you get burnt a few times first before learning and progressing. So there we’re obstacles that hit me hard and then I learnt from them and although i fell sometimes, i got back up and kept on going. That’s the trick really. The next step is to learn from the past.

What advice do you have for up and coming artist?

Keep on going and don’t let go. It isn’t always going to be a smooth ride, but if you hold on tight you will get through it and be stronger.

Is it strange having all these fans suddenly?

(Makeida Blushes) No. I have had some of my fans for many years. Ok, ok, ok, ok… at first my fan base consisted of family, friends and love ones and then as i continued to work globally, my fan base quickly turned into thousands. It was weird at first. But it’s really cool. You grow a bond with your fans and you feel like you need to update them you know, it’s hard to explain, but it’s like… i know they are there.

Before you go Makeida what’s your current mood??

My current mood is quite calm and relaxed. The last few weeks have been really busy for me, so I’m just taking things easy for now. You know, trying to save my energy.
