We managed to arrange a quick interview with Makeida!!

How do you feel about your soaring success?

I am very thankful and very humble. I am thankful for the wonderful opportunities that present themselves to me. I have been working extremely hard for a few years and though my success seems like it just happened, or as though i just appeared… but i have been here for some years now… grinding.

How have you coped with the struggles and obstacles?

Well, sometimes (in reality) you get burnt a few times first before learning and progressing. So there we’re obstacles that hit me hard and then I learnt from them and although i fell sometimes, i got back up and kept on going. That’s the trick really. The next step is to learn from the past.

What advice do you have for up and coming artist?

Keep on going and don’t let go. It isn’t always going to be a smooth ride, but if you hold on tight you will get through it and be stronger.

Is it strange having all these fans suddenly?

(Makeida Blushes) No. I have had some of my fans for many years. Ok, ok, ok, ok… at first my fan base consisted of family, friends and love ones and then as i continued to work globally, my fan base quickly turned into thousands. It was weird at first. But it’s really cool. You grow a bond with your fans and you feel like you need to update them you know, it’s hard to explain, but it’s like… i know they are there.

Before you go Makeida what’s your current mood??

My current mood is quite calm and relaxed. The last few weeks have been really busy for me, so I’m just taking things easy for now. You know, trying to save my energy.

In less than ONE WEEK after being posted on (super popular video sharing) site YouTube; Makeida’s video titled: “Makeida Hustling at Notting Hill Carnival” has received multiple honours on YouTube!

Makeida’s video at Notting Hill Carnival shows the young R&B singer on her grind with Makeida World (the official models and promotions team for Makeida) at the annual London Music festival. “He Got It” downloaded 274,000 in 3 months! A record for ANY unsigned independent artist!

iTunes has been around for over 7 years. Apple inc. The expansion of music available across this application extends to major label recording artists like: Mariah Carey, Beyonce Knowles, Keisha Cole, and many more. Additionally it extends to independent unsigned recording artists like Makeida.

This highly motivated young new spirit has raised the bar for independent artists on ITunes. With an astounding 274,000 downloads in a mere 3 months. It was all achieved with marketing strictly by Internet sources and Makeida accomplished these numbers without the help of a video. The bright and talented singer/songwriter is taking the UK to new heights with her hit “He Got It”. The modest diva has a positive attitude and free going spirit. Makeida is on the right path to stardom with her unbelievable voice and heartfelt personality she is a sure hit for the United States.

Makeida stole the attention and hearts of loyal carnival goers at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival (2008) in 2008, which is one of the biggest street parties across the world with over 2 million people in attendance. Makeida performed across a whooping 4 stages including Radio One Xtra, Rampage and Rappattack.

The success of “He Got It” is just the beginning for the aspiring star. That’s what MySpace, Facebook figures say with 6.7 MILLION MYSPACE FANS!

Making big strides in the industry is UK R&B singer Makeida. She has surpassed records in her new and upcoming career making her one of the newest and fastest growing R&B singers today. Makeida’s MySpace page has received over 360,000 visitors per month. As a result; Makeida has and she has been noted in MySpace news recently for her consistent success.

Makeida currently has over 6.7 million fans on MySpace – a huge record number for major artists, let alone unsigned (independent artists like Makeida).

Makeida has reached the maximum number of friends (currently 5,000 per account) 3 times on Facebook. Fans are appealing to Facebook to increase the number of Makeida’s friends on Facebook. Facebook say that there are currently only 1,000 members on Facebook who have ever reached the maximum number of friends… well I guess Makeida is one of the 1,000 out of the 50 million users on Facebook! In a recent interview with MySpace about online engagement with fans Makeida stated;

“…I am constantly engaging with my audience. One of the things I do is write weekly notes on both MySpace and Facebook. My little notes get read by hundreds every week… so that helps encourage MySpace/Facebook users to come back to the site.”
